Time to make a note in your diary - the dates of Saturday 12th April and 11th October 2025 We are holding the Vintage Hand Tool 'Extravaganza' As usual, they will be held in the Village Hall at Carlton Scroop, NG32 3AR .......................................... Fuller details of which dealers will be in attendance, the craft and skills demonstrations that will take place, and the 'must see' private hand tool collections along with being able to meet and chat with their owners, will be regularly updated as they are confirmed. Below you will see details and photographs of the last event ......................................... Not forgetting, a very important aspect of this event, is the chance to catch up with old friends, or to make new contacts, all whilst enjoying a cuppa with a slice of home-made cake, provided courtesy of Valerie and Susie !

The Norfolk connection - Cabinet maker, David Burman selling a diverse mix of tools and woodworking  treasures, books and other workshop ephemera.

Old Hand Tools - owned and run by Robert Leach, who usually has something special to offer the collector of old hand tools. Wide selection of offerings from all the well known makers.

Norris Plane Man - Brian JacksonA genuine  'f'ount of knowledge' of  all old hand woodworking tools, but especially British wooden moulding planes, and infilled metal planes made  by Thomas Norris of London.

Old Tool Mart - run by the 'other' Robert.          Offering a wide a wide selection of vintage woodworking hand tools suitable for today's user, or maybe some destined for collectors to add to their collections.

Steve's Selection - selling collectable and antique tools, and militaria, along with associated  'rural objet d'art', many rare and unusual tools.

Barney of Antique Tools will be attending the event for the first time, hailing from Suffolk. A long time tool dealer who will have a wide selection of woodworking tools to sell.

As well as being able to look at, and buy tools, we  hope you will also enjoy the variety of  craft skill demonstrations taking place during the day. Lining up, awaiting confirmation for these and others:-

  • Wood Turning demonstration and displays of his work given by  Andy James
  • Farmhouse chairmaking and backsplat carving by well known professional wood carver and wood turner, Peter Tree
  • Saw sharpening tips and tuition, along with edge tool sharpening with Peter Tiffney
  • Rag rug making and embroidery techniques - Beezy James

....Hand Tool Collecting....

Private collectors displaying some rare and unusual hand tools. Now is the chance to speak to the experts about their passion for  their particular collection and interests :-

Display of many rare and unusual hand tools, collected over the years by Andy Brown, known famously amongst the 'Rhykenologists' for his set of mother planes, used in making wooden moulding planes.

John Mayfield will be showing his reproduction 16th century tools copied from Henry the V111's warship, the  'Mary Rose'  carpenters tool chest. Also, some early dated Scandinavian tools.

Richard Arnold with a selection of  his  18th Century  English wooden planes, demonstrating his wood planemaking skills, as well as showcasing his hand and backsaws, that are currently individually hand-made by Shane Skelton in Yorkshire.

An outstanding selection of infilled Chariot Planes and Mitre planes. All ably curated and restored by Tim Smith.

Bob Williams will be exhibiting some of his rarely seen, interesting collection of Commemorative Foundation Stone-laying Trowels
